CHITTAGONG, Nov 3: Bangladesh Oil and Gas Workers Federation will launch protest movement for an indefinite period from November 10 as dialogue on their demands with the companies in the oil sector has failed, a statement said.
The workers' leaders decided to launch the agitation movement at a meeting held on November 1. The meeting was chaired by president of the federation Md Jane Alam.
Md Yakub, Nasir Uddin Ahmed Shah, Momtazul Islam, Mozaharul Islam, Mujibul Huq Bhuiyan, Jahangir Mostafa, Hamidur Rahman, Abul Kalam, Ratan Kumar Sen and Kafiluddin Molla addressed the meeting.
To press home realisation of their demands, the workers will bring out processions and hold protest meetings from 8:30 am for six days beginning from November 10 until November 15 in front of the Padma Oil Co Ltd, Jamuna Oil Co Ltd, Meghna Petroleum Ltd, LPG Ltd, SAOCL and Eastern Refinery Ltd.
They said from November 16 the workers of the oil marketing companies will continue demonstration and agitation programmes at the gates of their respective companies.
They said the CBA (collective bargaining agent) of each of the oil marketing companies submitted its demand to the authority following which a meeting was held on October 26 in the office of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation mediated by BPC Chairman Yunusur Rahman.
But the authorities of those companies ignored the workers' demands and showed obstinacy and the meeting failed to reach any agreement, they said.
