615 new cases

The number of the patients admitted to different hospitals has increased again. As many as 615 patients have been hospitalised with dengue fever in a day, the Directorate General of Health services (DGHS) told a press briefing on Monday. The health authority continues to report an increasing number of dengue infections amidst a weak fight against the aedes mosquito and its breeding grounds.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported 615 cases of hospitalisation and one fatality on Monday.

The total number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease has risen to 97 since January of this year, with a total of 16,285 hospitalisations, according to DGHS.

Of the new cases, 175 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka North City Corporation and 137 were hospitalized in Dhaka South City Corporation.

The remaining patients were admitted to hospitals outside Dhaka city. As of  Monday, 1,642 patients were receiving treatment in various hospitals across the country. Last year,

Bangladesh recorded 1,705 deaths due to dengue and 321,179 cases of hospitalization, marking a record in the past 24 years.
