One killed, 15 injured in Ctg gas cylinder blast

CHATTOGRAM, Mar 07: One person was killed and at least 15 others sustained injuries in a gas-cylinder blast following a fire in Mosharraf Miar Bazar area under Baharchhara union of Banshkhali Upazila in Chattogram.

The identity of the ill-fated victim was yet to be known.

Tofael Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Banshkhali thana said that the incident took place around 10:30 am on Thursday at a garage in Mosharraf Miar Bazar under Banshkhali upazila in Chattogram.

He said, "The fire originated in a pile of trash behind a shop in the bazaar and engulfed an adjacent shop and garage."

"Locals doused the fire immediately. Later, a gas cylinder kept in a garage exploded leaving at least 15 people from the curious mob injured. The injured were taken to the Banshkhali Upazila Health Complex where one of them succumbed to his injuries", OC Tofael added.

He said, "The identity of the deceased and injured could not be known immediately. Police are looking into the matter."

Banskhali Fire Service Officer Azadul Islam said that a unit of the fire station was sent to the spot on information about the fire in the morning. However, the locals brought the fire under control before the firefighters arrived.

Azadul Islam said, "The injured people were taken to upazila health complex for treatment."
