One more died of dengue on Monday, while some 865 people were infected afresh with the viral disease that was slightly lower than 902 on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Hasan Fakir, 45, a security guard of Madina Group and son of Shakhawat Hossain of Chitalmari upazila in Bagerhat.

He died from dengue during his treatment at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Monday.

In the meantime, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) recorded a total of 188 death incidents until Sunday, which are suspected to be caused by dengue.

After examining 96 death cases among the total number, it confirmed that 57 died from dengue disease, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

On the other hand, local media reported that the death toll crossed 150 a few days before.

Currently, some 3,931 people are undergoing treatment in hospitals and clinics after being infected with dengue virus, and 2,177 of them are in Dhaka and 1,754 are in other areas across the country.

A total 71,962 patients have been hospitalised since January 1. Of the total, 67,843 were discharged from hospitals after recovery.

Of the total, the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) admitted the highest 82 patients alone.

The DGHS data shows that the number of dengue-infected people has started decreasing in September. However, August has already broken all previous records of dengue infection, affecting 52,636 people in a single month.

The government agencies concerned have taken extra measures to handle the dengue outbreak, including increasing awareness, as people in and out of the city are found rushing to different hospitals.
