Onion sale under OMS from today

FE Report | September 16, 2019 00:00:00

The government has taken some steps including launching open-market sales (OMS) of onion at subsidised price from today (Monday) in the wake of soaring prices of the item in the domestic market.

The decisions were taken at a meeting, held on Sunday at the Secretariat with Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi in the chair, said a press release.

The meeting was told that a letter has been sent to the Bangladesh Bank, asking necessary steps to lessen LC (letter of credit) margin and interest rate on credit for onion import.

Steps have also been taken to speed up the delivery process of imported onion from ports and its uninterrupted transportation to help stabilize its prices.

The decision came as onion price hit Tk 60 per kg in the retail market.
