Online registration of female overseas job seekers launched

The online registration of female overseas job seekers was launched on Thursday following their growing demand and also to help ensure safe migration, said officials.  

The programme started only for Dhaka division on the day and will continue till March 11at the union, city and municipality digital centres and district manpower offices from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm every day.

The schedule for Rajshahi and Rangpur is March 12 to 16, Chittagong and Sylhet March 17 to 23, Khulna and Barisal March 24 to 28.

Officials said the number of registration on the first day was not high, but it will increase as the days pass.

"We hope to get the desired number of candidates tomorrow (Friday) as it is tweekly holiday," said an official of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment (EWOE) ministry. Garment workers will get the opportunity to be enlisted as it is their day-off, he said.

Saudi Arabia will take 12 categories of workers in its housekeeping sector from Bangladesh. Of them, the Middle Eastern country will hire housemaids at first, he said.

Besides, there is a good demand for domestic help in Hong Kong, he added.

Last month the Arab country signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangladesh to recruit domestic helps.      

After signing of the deal with Saudi Arabia the EWOE minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain told the media that Saudii Arabia will recruit nearly 10,000 workers each month in its housekeeping sector.

Aspirants can choose the jobs of housekeepers, caregivers, babysitters, gardeners, guards, cleaners, cooks and workers for apparel sector as profession while registration.

For caregiver, babysitter and driver jobs, candidates must possess at least secondary school certificates.

In 2013 nearly 50,000 women foreign job seekers were enlisted under government database through online registration programme. Of them, a good number of workers secured job abroad, said officials.   

More than 350,000 Bangladeshi female workers went abroad with jobs between 1991and February 2015. Of them maximum are in the Middle Eastern countries.
