Inauguration of the Mass Rapid Transit Line- 6 (MRT 6) from Agargaon to Motijheel in the capital will now take place on October 23 instead of October 20.
Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary ABM Amin Ullah Nuri told the FE, "Preparation is now being taken to shift the inauguration date to October 23."
'Date is not factor. As the minister announced the date, we are now working to organise it accordingly," he added.
However, confirmation about this could not be received from Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL), the state-owned company to build, operate and maintain all MRTs in the city, as the FE tried to contact the managing director and other high officials of the company several times.
Earlier, the DMTCL had announced October 20 for the inauguration of the Agargaon-Motijheel part of MRT-6 after getting the Prime Minister's schedule in August.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, who is also the general secretary of the ruling Awami League, however, announced the new date on Sunday while briefing journalists after a joint meeting of Awami League and its associate organisations.
The DMTCL inaugurated the first half of the MRT-6 from Uttara to Agargaon on December 29.
