The wealth statement of Orion Group Chairman Obaidul Karim, one of the 21 corrupt suspects earlier summoned to provide their asset accounts, was submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), showing wealth worth over Tk 1.53 billion (153.59 crore), reports UNB.
According to the statement submitted to ACC Secretary Delwar Hossain through a representative, Karim has wealth worth Tk 514.4 million (51.44 crore) in his own name. His wife Jubaida Karim has assets worth Tk 351.2 million while their only son Salman Karim owns property worth Tk 670.3 million.
On May 29, the 21 corrupt suspects, including Karim, now believed to be living abroad, were issued summons to come up with their asset accounts within seven working days. The Orion Group chairman and seven others did not comply with the ACC directive. Instead, they applied for extension of the time. And, as per the ACC Rules 2007, all of them were given another seven working days to submit their wealth statements.
