Over 2m students sit for SSC, equivalent exams

Over two million students from 11 educational boards appeared at the Secondary School Certificate and equivalent examinations at 3,818 centres in Bangladesh and abroad.
The exams kicked off at 10am on Sunday with the Bengali first paper under the nine general education boards, the Bengali second paper under SSC Vocational, and the Quran Majid and Tajvid test under the madrasa board. Following the directives, the examinees had to enter the exam halls 30 minutes before exam time, report agencies.
The number of students taking the public exams increased by 50,295 from last year.
Some 17,192 candidates from nine general education boards remained absent on the first day of the examinations.
Among them, 4,222 candidates are from Dhaka Education Board, 1,607 from Chittagong Education Board, 1,720 from Rajshahi Education Board, 1,026 from Barisal Education Board, 940 from Sylhet Education Board, 2,246 from Dinajpur Education Board, 2,618 from Comilla Education Board, 978 from Mymensingh Education Board, 1,834 from Jessore Education Board.
The information was revealed at the Ministry of Education's control room.
Education Minister Dipu Moni and Deputy Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury visited the Badda High School test centre in Dhaka to check if everything was up to the mark.
