Metropolitan magistrate Md Mizanur Rahman Thursday permitted the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) to quiz detained Awami League (AL) general secretary Abdul Jalil in hospital, reports bdnews24.com.
The decision follows an appeal from the Commission's deputy director Md Enamul Huq Chowdhury who is the principal investigation officer (IO) in the case.
Investigators appealed for permission to question Jalil about his wealth statement.
Jalil is in Lab Aid Hospital for treatment.
The AL leader was arrested on May 29.
UNB adds: The ACC has so far received more than 60,000 complaints and already sent some of those to the concerned departments for action while many more will be sent after the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.
"More than 60,000 complaints have been lodged with the Commission so far. After scrutiny, some of those have been sent to the concerned departments for necessary action and many more will be sent after Eid," ACC secretary Mokhles ur Rahman said Thursday during his regular briefing.
He said there are many complaints, which should be dealt with by the heads of respective departments. For instance, complaint against a junior engineer should not come to the Commission, as there are so many superiors ahead of him.
The ACC secretary said that in future the Commission would seek explanation from the heads of the departments if complaints, supposed to be dealt with by them, were forwarded to the ACC. Replying to a question about sending letters to 64 districts for inquiry on former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's wealth, he said the inquiry and investigation officers, for the sake of inquiries and investigation, could do whatever they feel necessary without requiring any permission from the Commission.
Asked whether letters would be sent to 64 districts in case of another former prime minister Khaleda Zia, Mokhles said it would be done if inquiry and investigation officers feel the necessity.
Asked about ACC receipt of the wealth statement of Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal general secretary Zafrul Hasan even after filing a non-submission case, he said the decision of the court has to be obeyed.
The ACC secretary said the reconstituted Commission has so far filed 89 first information reports (FIRs) with different police stations. Verdicts have been given in 15 cases and 26 cases are at the stage of recording evidence while 48 cases are under investigation.
