The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) under the Ministry of Education has already sent over 240 million textbooks to schools across the country to ensure that students receive their books on the first day of the year.
"It has been confirmed that all school students across the country have received their textbooks on January 1," NCTB member (Textbook) Prof Dr Riyad Chowdhury said, reports BSS.
He said the total number of textbooks from pre-primary to secondary levels for the 2026 academic year is 300.26 million. Of those, 246.99 million books have been supplied till Thursday, accounting for 82.26 per cent of the total.
At the primary level, Chowdhury said, the number of textbooks for general education is 85.92 million, all of which have been delivered.
"For madrasa education at the primary level, the number of textbooks is 31.12 million, of which over 29.5 million have been delivered. The number of textbooks for children of ethnic minorities is 0.19 million, which was delivered by December 15."
At the secondary level, the total number of textbooks for general, madrasa, and technical education is 183.24 million, of which 131.48 million have been delivered as of 8:00am Thursday.
He added that, class-wise, 44.32 million textbooks were allocated for Class VI, of which 35.98 million have been delivered, accounting for 81.18 per cent. For Class VII, 41.58 million books were allocated, with 26.14 million delivered (62.86pc). Class VIII received 80.23 million textbooks, of which 20.69 million have been delivered, while for Class IX, over 57 million textbooks were allocated and more than 48.6 million have already been delivered.
