Owners seek to keep super shops open till 8:00pm

FE REPORT | June 28, 2020 00:00:00

Country's retail super shop owners have requested the government to extend opening hours across their retail shops to 8:00 pm aiming to facilitate purchase of different goods by consumers comfortably, sources said.

The government allowed to keep the super shops open from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm every day to ensure compliance with health safety guidelines.

Bangladesh Supermarket Owners' Association (BSOA) recently urged the cabinet division to take required measures in this regard.

The BSOA explained the reason for increasing the opening time of the retail super stores. If the shop opening hours are extended, the consumers concerned will come to the shopping outlets at their convenient time, there will be no long queue outside the outlets and no

sufferings the consumers will face, come rain or shine.

It noted that the rush of the consumers would decrease in the event of extended shopping hours. It would also lessen the health risks. The officials in both government and private sectors would be able to purchase their essential items after the office hours in that case, added the letter.

It will also help achieve the desired target of stopping spread of the deadly coronavirus. They are running their outlets ensuring necessary health safety measures for their staffs and consumers. They have also been maintaining home delivery services depending on demand of consumers.

The owners think the government should consider the issue as the retail super shop chains are operating outlets abiding by health safety guidelines and they are selling essential items at reasonable prices.

There are more or less eight retail super shops in the country.
