The government has appointed Rafiqul Islam as the director of the Padma Bridge Project, reports bdnews24.com.
Mr Islam is due to retire shortly from his position as the chief engineer of the roads and high-ways department.
He was appointed on a two-year contract, an order of the Ministry of Establishment said.
Communications Minister Abul Hossain informed Parliament on January 11 that the design of the Padma Bridge had been finalised and the government wanted to start construction work from September this year.
The bridge is expected to be completed by the end of 2013.
