Park, recreation centre to be set up at Karnaphuli riverside


CHATTOGRAM, July 15: The district administration of Chattogram and Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) are going to build a recreation centre, boat museum and a river park named 'Karnaphuli Lookout' on the recovered lands from the illegal occupiers at Karnaphuli riverside.
Sources said there will be an extraordinary recreation centre consisting of ferris wheel, benches to sit, garden, boat museum and a park in the 'Karnaphuli Lookout'. There will be a playing zone for the kids as well in the park.
The project will be set up on 12.45 acres of land on the bank of Karnaphuli river. Around Tk 50 million will be the total cost for the project.


Chattogram district administration has taken fresh step to evict all 2,181 illegal establishments on the bank of the river. Following the step, the authority concerned is continuing the eviction drives to evict the encroachers and recover the government land, sources added.
While talking to The Financial Express, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chattogram Abul Bashar Mohammed Fakhrujjaman said the eviction drive of the administration was stopped after continuing from February 4 to 9 in 2019. However, now the eviction drives are being continued to recover the riverside from the illegal land grabbers."
He said, "We have already recovered huge area from the land grabbers so far. 'Karnaphuli Lookout' will be set up on 12.45 acres of land on the riverside evicting the land grabbers."
"We have taken steps to make park, museum, football ground, food court, picnic spot, recreation centers and green sites on the banks of river Karnaphuli. We will plant trees on the both banks of the river as part of plantation of 23 lac trees in Chattogram in the current year," he added.
"Building 'Karnaphuli Lookout' will be a permanent solution to save the riversides from the illegal land grabbers," he further said.
Meanwhile, Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Alhaj Rezaul Karim Cowdhury and DC of Chattogram Abul Bashar Mohammed Fakhrujjaman along with top officials on Wednesday visited from Sadarghat to Chaktai in Chattogram, the selected site area for the project.
CCC Mayor said, "The district administration and city corporation will jointly build the 'Karnaphuli Lookout' with many facilities including walkway, green plantation, food court, playground, park, etc. It will increase the beauty of the banks of Karnaphuli river and attract more tourists in the port city."
