CHITTAGONG, Dec 11: Dense fog resulted in flight disruption prompting the passengers to demonstrate in the Chittagong Shah Amanat International airport on Thursday.
Several hundred stranded passengers of different flights brought out procession inside the airport in the morning as two flights of Biman Bangladesh Airlines made forced landing in Chittagong after they had failed to land in Dhaka Shajalal International Airport.
The Biman Bangladesh flight left Bangkok for Dhaka with 300 passengers but landed in Chittagong Airport in the early hours on Thursday as it failed to land in Dhaka due to dense fog in the Dhaka sky.
Another Biman Bangladesh flight with over 200 passengers from Kuwait was scheduled to land in Dhaka on Thursday morning but landed in Chittagong Airport at 9.30 am for the same reason.
However, both the flights left Chittagong Airport for Dhaka at half an hour interval after 11.00 am today, civil aviation authority officials at Chittagong said.
Three more domestic flights of other private airlines bound for Dhaka also were forced to reschedule their departure time by 40 to 45 minutes, they said.
Civil Aviation manager at Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport Wing Commander Nur-e-Alam said two BB flights could not land in Dhaka and went to Chittagong instead which prompted the passengers to demonstrate.
The passengers of the Bangkok-Dhaka flight were stranded in Chittagong and so they demonstrated in the morning, he said adding that the cause of their grievance was that they were not informed about the time of flight's departure time from Chittagong. There was no major untoward incident in the airport, he said.
