FE Report
The Planning Commission has rejected a proposal to increase the width of the Jatrabari-Katchpur road by adding four more lanes.
The commission felt that it was not necessary immediately to improve the city's traffic jam, officials said.
The Roads and Highways Department (RHD) prepared the Tk 1.73 billion project with seven kilometre approach road on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway to accommodate increasing number of vehicles.
The Communication Ministry sent the project proposal of the Jatrabari-Katchpur eight-lane project to the project evaluation committee (PEC) of the commission on November 18.
Officials said the PEC during a meeting last week reviewed the proposal and expressed its doubt about its benefit in improving the traffic jam.
Presided over by member infrastructure AKM Jafarullah Khan, the PEC directed the RHD to recast the project after further study on the necessity of increasing the number of lanes.
