The Power Division under the ministry of power, energy and mineral resources (MoPEMR) will construct and operate the Matarbari jetty along with the channel of Moheshkhali Island in the Bay of Bengal, said officials.
The ministry of shipping (MoS) will facilitate the construction and operation of the jetty, they added.
The Power Division and the MoS inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) Tuesday, ending a row between them over the construction and operational responsibility for the jetty and a 1.5-kilometre long and 250-metre wide channel.
Construction of the jetty is necessary for smooth transport of coal for implementing the proposed 1,200 megawatts (MW) Matarbari power plant project being funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
