The British High Commission Wednesday criticised a section of visa agents for cheating people through lucrative advertisements on employment in the United Kingdom (UK), reports BSS.
The HC in a press release Wednesday said a number of visa agents have been giving advertisements to help Bangladeshi nationals to get employment under the Working Holidaymakers scheme. The Working Holidaymakers scheme is a programme, under which a Bangladeshi national can work half of his time and earn money for holidaying up to two years. The scheme, however, has no scope to get citizenship if someone overstays for years to get permanent residentship in the UK.
"People aged from 1-30 years are eligible under the scheme to go to the UK for a maximum of two years of holiday and can work in the UK only for up to half of their time there, to pay for their holiday," said the press release.
It also said applicants could not go to the UK if their main reason is going there to work, instead of holidaying. Neither it is possible to stay for more than two years, nor to qualify for British citizenship after the working holidays, the HC said.
The Head of Immigration Services Jon Verney said, "Agents who deliberately make false aims are not helping applicants, rather they are actually deceiving people."
In fact, the agents are putting people at risk of being detained and return to Bangladesh.
