State-run Petrobangla has organised a pre-bid meeting for interested global firms to carry out a two dimensional (2D) non-exclusive multi-client seismic survey in offshore blocks in the Bay of Bengal on March 1, a senior official has said.
It has already urged the interested parties to send their queries in writing ahead of the meeting to be held in the conference room of Petrobangla at Kawran Bazar in the city.
Petrobangla invited this month international tenders for carrying out the 2D non-exclusive multi-client seismic surveys within the sovereign offshore areas of Bangladesh to delineate offshore hydrocarbon deposits.
The area covers around 75,000 sq km area in the Bay with the water depth ranges from 20 metres to above 2,500 metres.
Petrobangla has divided the offshore areas into 20 blocks in the Bay of Bengal earmarked for the survey.
The areas where Bangladesh's lone exploration company Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Ltd (Bapex), Petrobangla's subsidiary gas entities and international oil companies (IOCs) are already carrying out explorations, have been kept outside the purview of the seismic programme under this bidding.
The bid submission deadline is March 29, 2015.
The bid winning companies would share the profit and data with Petrobangla.
The contractors would have exclusive right to license the project data.
It would be a 10-year agreement, under which the survey companies would get two years for data acquisition, processing and interpretation.
This is the first time Bangladesh has floated tender for conducting a 2D seismic survey alone by foreign firms.
The country earlier floated international tenders several times to carry out oil and gas exploration both in onshore and offshore areas by IOCs.
The bid winning IOCs carried out 2D seismic surveys in their respective blocks before initiating oil and gas explorations.
