Director General (DG) of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) and senior journalist Shah Alamgir passed away at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the city on Thursday, report agencies.
He was 62.
Shah Alamgir breathed his last at around 10:10 am at the CMH, said Mizan Malik, a special correspondent of the Daily Jugantor.
Shah Alamgir had been undergoing treatment for various diseases, including leukemia and diabetes, at the hospital since February 21. He was shifted to its ICU on Wednesday as his condition deteriorated, said a press release issued by the Jatiya Press Club.
Alamgir left behind his father, wife, one son, one daughter, five brothers, four sisters, and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
The first namaz-e-janaza of the journalist was held around 1:30 pm in his ancestral home at Goran, the second one at PIB around 2:30, the third one at the Jatiya Press Club around 3:00 pm while the fourth one was held around 4:30 pm at his residence.
He was buried at a graveyard in Uttara Sector-12.
Alamgir's journalism career started from his student life when he joined Kishore Bangla, a children's weekly. He worked for the weekly as its co-editor from 1980 to 1984.
