Piped water safe to drink WASA claims again

The Dhaka Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) has again claimed that its piped water is totally safe to drink.
The claim was made following the allegation made by a family from Jurain in Dhaka on Tuesday that the piped water was contaminated.
In a statement on Wednesday, the WASA termed the allegation 'totally false and baseless.'
Following the reports on the incident involving the family published in the media on Wednesday, Deputy Chief of Public Relations of WASA AN Mostafa Tareq said the authority sent engineers to test the water in Jurain area.
No impurity was found in water samples tested by the engineers in the area, he claimed in the statement.
Sub-Assistant Engineer Syed Nawab Ali found the quality of water good, which was collected from the tap in the house of Mizanur Rahman's father-in-law in presence of local people. He also drank the water, said the statement.
The statement, however, said the wife of Mizanur Rahman who rushed to the WASA office on Tuesday to feed the WASA Managing Director tap water told WASA officials that there is no problem in the tap water in their house now, but the tap water of the locality has problem.
She also told the WASA officials that the water collected on Tuesday was from other area, the statement said.
In the statement, Mostafa Tareq also said water may be contaminated in some places due to problems in the pipelines or reservoirs and WASA has already taken steps to fix them. Some 45 per cent of the work has been completed, he claimed.
