PK Halder's associate Bashudeb-Papia couple gets bail

The High Court on Thursday granted anticipatory bail to Bashudeb Banerjee, an associate of the much talked about PK Haldar and his wife Papia Banerjee, for six weeks in 15 cases filed under the money laundering prevention act.

Both of them were former Directors of the International Leasing and Financial Services Limited (ILFSL).

The High Court bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Ebadoth Hossain passed the order following separate petitions filed by the accused seeking bail in the cases.

The HC also directed them to surrender their passports to the trial court concerned saying that they cannot go aboard without permission from the court.

The two appeared before the HC on Thursday in connection with the cases.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the cases in 2021 on charge of laundering Tk 7.5 billion, said Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik who appeared in the court hearing representing the state.

Senior Advocate Md Nurul Islam Sujan and Advocate Zulhas Uddin Ahmmed argued for the petitioners, while Senior Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan and Advocate Asif Hassan appeared for the ACC and DAG AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state.

DAG AKM Amin Uddin said, "The court granted their bail on conditions that they cannot leave the country without the permission of the court and they have to surrender in the concerned trial court before ending of the bail term."
