Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked the exporters of frozen foods to maintain quality of shrimps and other frozen foods in the greater interest of the industry and national economy, report agencies.
The Prime Minister (PM) gave the directive when a 27-member delegation of the Bangladesh Frozen Foods Exporters' Association (BFFEA) met her at her office Wednesday.
Briefing newsmen, PM's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad said the Prime Minister has also asked the exporters to set up shrimp enclosures (gher) in a well planned way so that the agriculture lands are not affected by saline water.
Hasina directed them and authorities concerned to ensure that coastal dams and embankments are not damaged while pumping in sea water into the enclosures.
She said there should be a system of bringing water into the enclosures without causing damage to the dams.
About maintaining quality of shrimp and other frozen foods, the Prime Minister observed that due to fault of a few people, the whole industry has to suffer.
"For one's fault, the whole industry can not suffer," she added.
Hasina said the country's shrimp exports came to a standstill during the BNP-Jamaat rule due to various irregularities and adulteration.
