PM for joint venture by D-8 countries

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Tuesday said the main focus of D-8 member states should be the overall development of OIC countries through economic progress and enhancing connectivity, reports UNB.

The Prime Minister said this when visiting Secretary General of D-8 Dr Sayed Alo Mohammad Mousavi paid a courtesy call on her at her office (PMO).

Sheikh Hasina laid emphasis on finding out ways to taking pragmatic projects for the development of the D-8 member counties (Developing Eight).

After the meeting, PM's Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhury briefed reporters.

The Prime Minister also underscored the need for taking initiatives in joint venture by the D-8 countries using their resources to ensure the development of their people.

Hasina said the D-8 member countries could work together exchanging their own experiences for their mutual benefits through enhancing trade. The D-8 Secretary General praised Sheikh Hasina's role as a founding member of the organisation.

He said the work on the policy level of the organisation has been completed in the last 16 years since its inception. Now it is working on the tangible development of policymaking on agriculture, transport, trade, economy, civil aviation, shipping, energy and industry sector, he added.
