PM hints at taking all steps needed to build Ctg as commercial capital

CHITTAGONG, Jan 02: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Saturday said that the government initially undertook infrastructure development projects worth Tk. 16.82 billion (1,682 crore) but it would take every step necessary to build Chittagong as a truly commercial capital of the country.
She was speaking as the chief guest at a large gathering at the Bahaddarhat intersection in Chittagong after inaugurating construction of five flyovers at busy points of the port city.
"The foundation laying of five flyovers is the beginning of a long journey towards developing Chittagong as a truly commercial hub of the country. We will do everything I committed to you in a pre-election meeting at Laldighi," she said.
Construction of the flyovers at an estimated cost of Tk. 2.6 billion with Chittagong Development Authority's own financing is expected to be completed in 2011.
