PM leaves for Canada today

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina leaves Dhaka on Thursday evening on a four-day official visit to Canada to attend the Outreach Leaders Programme of the G7 reports UNB.

The G7 is a group of seven countries with advanced economies in the world.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invited 12 world leaders, including Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, to take part in a special outreach session of the G7 Summit.

The G7 consists of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

During her visit, Sheikh Hasina will join the outreach session at Quebec city in Canada on June 09.

On June 10, she will also hold a bilateral meeting with her Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau in Quebec in the morning and join a views-exchange meeting with Bangladesh expatriates in Toronto in the evening.

Besides, Hasina will hold a meeting with Canada's special envoy on Rohingya crisis Bob Rae in Toronto on June 11.

An Emirates flight carrying Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her entourage will take off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 7:30pm (local time) on Thursday for Toronto.

On her way to Toronto, the Prime Minister will make a stopover in Dubai for five hours.

The flight carrying her is scheduled to reach Toronto Pearson International Airport on Friday at 9:30am (local time).

She will then go to Quebec city by a flight of Air Canada.

Trade, investment, cooperation in achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs), political consultations, cooperation in blue economy area and Rohingya issue will be discussed at the bilateral meeting.

This was disclosed by Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali at a briefing over the Prime Minister's visit to Canada on Tuesday.

He said Bangladesh will highlight issues related to climate change, sustainable use of ocean resources, blue economy and Bangladesh's initiative on women empowerment at the G7 Forum.
