Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday sought more Swedish investment in different sectors of the country, reports UNB.

"We need more investment…so we're setting up 20 more export processing zones (EPZs) across the country," she said when newly appointed Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh Johan Frisell met her at her Sangsad Bhaban office.

PM's press secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri briefed reporters after the meeting.

He said the Prime Minister thanked the Swedish government for its continued assistance since its independence in 1971.

Hasina also sought more Swedish assistance for further development of different sectors like education, economy and healthcare apart from leather goods industries.

Welcoming the new Swedish envoy, the Prime Minister assured him of extending all sorts of cooperation during his stay in Bangladesh.

Frisell highly appreciated Bangladesh's tremendous success in socioeconomic field under the Prime Minister's dynamic stewardship.

He informed the Prime Minister that Sweden has extended the development strategy for additional seven years to help Bangladesh become a middle-income country by 2021. "We'll continue our assistance for Bangladesh's further development."

Frisell said the Swedish entrepreneurs are interested to invest in Bangladesh's readymade garment, ceramic and pharmaceutical sectors.

PMO Secretary Suraiya Begum was present on the occasion.
