A police inspector has been withdrawn from duty for allegedly raping a 12-year-old child in Noakhali's island Upazila of Hatia. Police say they are searching for the victim and her mother, reports bdnews24.com.
Khorshed Alam, officer-in-charge of the Jahazmara Police Investigation Centre in the Upazila, was withdrawn and attached to the district police lines after the child and her mother came forward with the allegation on Facebook Live on Saturday night, said Hatia Police Station chief Mohammad Kabir Hossain.
The child alleged on Facebook Live that the child's mother worked as a cook at the Jahazmara Police Investigation Centre. The child would also go there. She claims that Police Inspector Khorshed called the child to his house on the pretext of sweeping the house in her mother's absence and raped her.
The child's mother and brother were allegedly threatened with jail time if they told anyone about the incident. The child told her mother about the incident, but no one else out of fear.
