Police were yet to make any significant breakthrough in unveiling the mysteries shrouding the sensational killings in a row in the capital over the last few days that worried the public and the administration both.
According to sources, the police administration could not find any clue yet after two of three murder cases were transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) of Police.
Police officials concerned said they had so far managed to arrest four persons in connection with the Maghbazar triple murders while several persons were questioned by them over the killing of Nurul Islam Farooqi, an Islamic scholar.
When contacted, Additional Deputy Commissioner of the plainclothes police (Dhaka Metropolitan Police) Ashiqur Rahman told the FE that they were carrying out investigation to dig out reasons behind the assassination of Farooqi, also Khatib of the High Court Mazar mosque.
"None was arrested in this regard as we're yet to make any breakthrough. It will take some time," said Mr. Rahman, who has been made investigating officer in the case.
Unidentified miscreants stormed the West Razabazar residence of Nurul Islam Farooqi after Magrib prayers on August 27 and slaughtered him after tying down everyone of the family.
The killing also sparked protests in various parts of the country.
In less than 24 hours of the shock, the city-dwellers were awed by another terrible act of terrorism when a group of armed assailants raided a semi-pucca house in Maghbazar and started firing at random that killed three members of a family.
They were Ranu Akhter Brishti, Munna, and Billal Hossain.
DMP Deputy Commissioner (media) Mahfuzur Rahman said detectives arrested another person in the triple-murder case from the capital's Demra area on Tuesday night.
"He is believed to be one of the closest cohorts of Kailya Babu, the main accused in the murder case," he said.
The latest arrest, he hopes, would help the investigators track down the suspected mastermind.
With the latest one, a total of four accused in the case have so far been arrested.
Police sources said there had long been an intense rivalry among three alleged local land-grabbers and extortionists --Kailya Babu, Kalachand (Brishti's elder bother) and Rony.
A couple of days later, a businessman and his wife were found shot dead in their bedroom in the capital's posh Banani DOHS area. The deceased were Abdur Rob, 57, managing director of Afsar Group, and his wife Roksana Parvin.
"There is no breakthrough," Sub-Inspector of the Cantonment Police Station and IO of the case Shakhawat Hossain said.
Prima facie, it seemed that Rob shot his wife to death first with his licensed pistol and then committed suicide, the police officer said.
