Police to deploy drones for security of tourists

CHATTOGRAM, July 06: Tourist Police in the Chattogram Range will launch a drone project for the purpose of security of tourists in Chattogram, Cox's Bazar and three other hill districts -- Rangamati, Khagrachari and Bandarban.

Tourist Police in the Chattogram Range held a press conference at Chattogram Press Club on Saturday morning regarding their achievements and activities in greater Chattogram.

Additional DIG of Tourist Police in Chattogram Range Muslim Uddin said at the press conference, "Chattogram is a unique place for tourism. We have Cox's Bazar and Patenga beach, hills in Chattogram Hill Tracts, lakes, forests, etc here in Chattogram division. Tourists will be attracted, if we can arrange proper security and hospitality here."

He disclosed the plan of tourist police and said, "In future, we will introduce a drone project for safety of tourists here in greater Chattogram, particularly the hill and beach areas."

He said, "The tourist arrivals are increasing here day by day. Last year, a total of 16,250,000 locals tourists and 125,000 foreign tourists visited here. The number of local tourists was 1,450,000 and foreign tourists were 85,000 in 2017. Local tourists were 1,160,000 and foreign tourists were 45,000 in 2016 and local tourists were 950,000 and foreign tourists were 57,650 in 2015. As a result, I hope that the number of tourists will increase in future."

"After introducing the Tourist Police, the tourist arrivals are increasing day by day as tourist police are giving security to the tourists now. Despite suffering from shortage of manpower and equipment, we are providing security to the tourists in Bangladesh. If we get adequate manpower and equipment we can ensure the total security of tourists at every tourist spot," he added.

He mentioned that Cox's Bazar and Patenga beaches are safe because of proper security measures of the tourist police now. Tourists can go to the beaches any time -- day or night, he added.

He urged the government to appoint adequate manpower and provide proper equipment to ensure security of tourists.

He also plans to introduce a helpline for tourists, Guest Management Apps for tourists and database of tourist police.
