Senior BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that Bangladesh's political roadmap must be stabilised alongside efforts to strengthen the country's economic strategy, reports bdnews24.com

At the 4th Bangladesh Economic Conference in a Dhaka hotel on Saturday, he said: "In the roadmap for the future, it is not enough to just have the economic plan. The political roadmap must also be stable."

"It (the political roadmap) must have stability and permanence."

Claiming that the BNP has already started working to keep the political roadmap stable, Fakhrul said: "We have implemented these reforms, signed the charter and the manifesto. The issues we have signed, the reform proposals that came up, we had presented all of these a long time ago.

"In 2016, our leader Khaleda Zia gave them efficiently. Many of the issues that we have agreed upon today were present there."

He added that almost all of "today's economic and political reforms" are also included in the party's 31-point demand.

While outlining what the BNP would do if it came to power, the party's secretary general said: "We need to focus greatly, as we have already considered that we need to do a lot more work in the health sector.

"At the same time, what is most necessary is a complete overhaul of the education sector to make it suitable for the development of our people."
