Political stability helps restoration of business confidence : Tofail

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said Friday that the businessmen of the country had regained their confidence due to the measures taken by the government to restore political stability.
"Businessmen have regained their confidence due to political stability restored by the government," he said as the chief guest at a roundtable on 'Foresight of Leadership: Post Election Political and Constitutional Challenges" at the VIP lounge of the Jatiya Press Club on the day.
Rastrabigyan Samity (Political Science Association) organised the programme. President of the samity Prof Dr Giasuddin Molla of Dhaka University presented the key note paper on the topic.
The commerce minister said the government has set the export target at US$ 30.5 billion for the fiscal year (FY) 2013-14. The country exported goods worth $ 27.01 billion during the last FY.  
He said people have voted for BNP-backed candidates in the upazila parishad elections with the hope that it would get be happy and shun violence on the streets.
He said that the results of the upazila parishad election do not have any relation with the popularity of the current government.
Prof Khurshida Begum, Department of Government and Politics of Jahangirnagar University moderated it.  
Information Adviser to the Prime Minister Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Vice- Chancellor of Dhaka University (DU) AAMS Arefin Siddique, President of Bangladesh Arthoniti Samiti (Bangladesh Economics Association) Prof Abul Barakat and columnist Sohrab Hasan, among others, were present.
