Potato, onion prices show slight decline

FE REPORT
Prices of potatoes and onions have showed a slight decline but are still much higher than the expected level of the consumers, said market insiders.
However, this slight dip in the prices of the two commodities was balanced largely by the rising trend of eggs and edible oil prices, according to market sources.
Both stored and seasonal potato was sold at Tk 65-80 a kg on Saturday depending on quality as against Tk 70-90 a kg on Thursday.
The current potato prices are still 216 per cent higher than that of last year, as per Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) daily report.

Newly-harvested onion prices showed a Tk 10-20 decline per kg as it was sold at Tk90-110 a kg on the day. The tuber spice is still 110 per cent costlier than that a year ago, said TCB.
Meanwhile, egg price has increased by Tk 1.0-1.125 per piece in the last few days as a dozen of brown farm eggs was sold at Tk130-135 on Saturday.
Refiners raised soybean oil prices this week by Tk4.0-5.0 a litre as bottled oil was retailed at Tk173-174 a litre.
Loose soybean and palm oil also witnessed Tk 5.0-8.0 a litre hike during the period, according to kitchen market sources.
However, vegetable, chicken, sugar and other essentials' prices remained static maintaining their previous highs.
