This year the six-day police week with the theme 'Smart police smart country, Bangladesh of peace and progress,' is being observed from February 27 to March 3.

The prime minister said the government is paying attention sincerely to deal with the emerging patterns of offenses. If the system is not upgraded to deal with offense with the change of crime patterns, these can't be controlled, she said.

She asked the police members to serve the people irrespective of men, women and children with utmost sincerity, considering them as dear and near ones in any working place.

Noting that the police have now become friends of the people, the head of government said nowadays people don't get scared (of police) as was the case in the past.

"Now they (the people) have regained their trust and the common people consider the police as their friend and a place of trust," said Hasina.
