Private sector's contribution to cultivated biological resources (CBR) is 0.81 per cent of the GDP (gross domestic product), which is 3.63 per cent of the total investments, according to a government survey.
Its report was formally released in the capital on Tuesday, said a press statement.
Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) conducted the survey, titled 'Survey on Private Sector Gross Fixed Capital Formation in Cultivated Biological Resources (CBR) 2014'.
The survey, however, did not include private investments on fisheries and woody trees, the statement also said.
BBS Director General Mohammad Abdul Wazed presided over the survey report launching programme.
BBS Deputy Director General Baitul Amin Bhuiyan and its Statistics and Information Management Division's Additional Secretary Shafiqul Islam were, among others, present on the occasion.
Sharing their findings, the BBS surveyors said private investment in CBR, which includes cow, buffalo, goat, sheep, tea garden, rubber garden and fruit-bearing tree, are yet to be included in the GDP.
The BBS statement also said entertainment, literacy and computer software sector need to be calculated alongside CBR, if the country wants to formulate GDP in accordance with the United Nations (UN)-prescribed Systems of National Accounts 2008.
The private investment-related survey on entertainment and literacy is going on, while the study on software will be initiated from the next year. Citing speech of Statistics and Information Management Division's Secretary Kaniz Fatema it said BBS is making efforts to accumulate all necessary information to help release GDP growth report quarterly. From now on BBS will release labour survey-related reports in each quarter, it added.
