Pro-BNP lawyers urge boycott of all courts from Jan 1 to 7

In order to express solidarity with the ongoing non-cooperation movement of BNP, leaders of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum (BJAF), a platform of the pro-BNP lawyers, on Wednesday announced a programme of boycotting all courts across the country, including Appellate Division and the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, from January 1 to 7 in 2024.

They made the announcement from a press conference held at the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) building.

Barrister Kayser Kamal, central Secretary General of the Ainjibi Forum, read a written statement in the conference.

Former Speaker of the Parliament Barrister Muhammad Jamiruddin Sircar, former Attorney General A J Mohammad Ali, former SCBA President Zainul Abedin, Senior Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, former SCBA Secretaries Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan and Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal, Ainjibi Forum's SC unit Secretary Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal, among others, were also present at the press conference.

Barrister Kayser Kamal said, "We are announcing programmes demanding resignation of Sheikh Hasina, boycotting dummy elections, restoring the independence of the

judiciary and bringing back the fundamental rights of the people.

All courts including Appellate Division and High Court Division of the Supreme Court will be boycotted from January 1 to January 7 in 2024."

Barrister Kayser Kamal said they will hand over the letters regarding their decision of boycotting all courts to the Chief Justice and other judges within December 31 this year. They urged all the lawyers of the country to make this democratic program successful.

In the press conference, Ainjibi Forum leaders claimed that a total of 1482 leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organizations were sentenced to different jail terms in last 16 weeks. It also claimed that the government has arrested a total of 23,460 BNP men in 684 cases filed on different false allegation since October 28 this year.
