Probe body formed to investigate ship collision at Ctg port

CHATTOGRAM, May 3 (BSS): A joint investigation committee has been formed to look into the collision between two ships at Chattogram Port.
The Department of Shipping and the Port Authority formed the committee following the collision between the ships from Singapore at the outer anchorage of the port on Friday morning.
The committee will determine the cause of the accident and assess the extent of the damage, port sources said.
According to sources, one of the ships belongs to the shipping company 'Maersk', while the other belongs to 'HR Line', a domestic company. Both vessels were carrying imported goods from Singapore and were anchored at the outer anchorage. The port authority had scheduled the ships to dock at the Chattogram Port jetty on Friday.
However, they collided before docking.
The incident has created uncertainty among importers and port officials over the unloading of approximately 2,800
TEUs of container goods belonging to various importers.
Two port pilots, Captain Md Ataul Hakim Siddiqui and Captain Mohammad Shamsuddin, attempted to bring the ships to the jetty but returned after observing the damage. Visible damage was found in the main structures of the ships, prompting the need for a detailed investigation to assess any potential underwater damage.
