Process of Tarique

In the latest development, Home Adviser Maj General (Retd) MA Matin Wednesday said the process of releasing BNP senior joint secretary general Tarique Rahman for his better treatment abroad has made progress, reports UNB.

He also said there is no legal impediment to setting free detained ex-Prime Minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and her elder son Tarique.

The Home Adviser spoke of the latest situation when asked by reporters if there was any legal bar to their release, as BNP and its allies went on a second round of street showdown Wednesday to press for release of the party leaders.

'Process of releasing Tarique Rahman has made progress, but it is not possible to say in detail about the moment,' he told the journalists at his Ministry, indicating that it might be a matter of moments now.

The comments of the home-ministry custodian of the caretaker government came while the High Court granted bail to ailing Tarique on the day in a bunch of the five graft cases filed against him in the country's changed political context.

Replying to another query, General Matin said Tarique Rahman has been given treatment under jail code.
