Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan to be new VC of DU

Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, who teaches development studies, is set to be appointed the 30th Vice-chancellor at Dhaka University (DU).
The Ministry of Education will issue a notification today (Tuesday) regarding this appointment, a Ministry source confirmed to the media.
Professor Niaz Ahmed has been serving as the acting Vice-Chancellor of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) since August 15 of this year following the student revolution. He was previously the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the private university. He was the Chair of Development Studies at Dhaka University.
He has also served as a Senior Academic Adviser at the National Defence College (NDC) and the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development.
Professor Niaz Ahmed pursued higher education and research at the University of Oxford, the University of Wales Swansea, and the Asian Institute of Technology.
His career showcases a rich blend of academic and practical development management experiences gained in Bangladesh, Thailand, and the UK.
The new vice chancellor was born in 1966. After his graduation and post-graduation from Chittagong University in 1986 and 1987 respectively, he did a post-graduate diploma in Human Resource Management from the Institute of Personnel Management.
In 9196, Prof Niaz Ahmed obtained his PhD in development studies from the University of Wales Swansea in the UK. He later pursued post-doctoral research at the University of Oxford, the University of Wales, and the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand.
However, Professor Maksud Kamal, the 29th Vice-Chancellor of the university, resigned from his position on August 10 due to personal reasons after playing a controversial role in the recent quota reform movement. During this movement, he failed to protect the students and used law enforcement to vacate the halls and campus.
