Progress in 6 fast track projects \\\'satisfactory\\\'

The committee formed to monitor the fast track projects has expressed satisfaction over the progress of six priority projects, including the Padma Bridge and the metro-rail, during its 4th meeting on Wednesday.
Sources said the Fast Track Monitoring Committee meeting, held with Prime Minister and committee head Sheikh Hasina in the chair, reviewed all the priority projects being implemented under the ministries of road transport and bridges, power, and energy and mineral resources, and opined that almost all its previous directives have been implemented.
Ministers and secretaries of the ministries concerned attended the meeting.
A presentation on progress of the six projects was made, highlighting some possible challenges to face in the upcoming days. However, no new directive was given, as the challenges are yet to emerge, sources said.
The Matarbari power plant project was included as a fast track project during the 3rd meeting of the committee in absence of the Prime Minister. But formality in this regard was completed during the 4th meeting in her presence, they added.
Officials said the Prime Minister expressed her satisfaction over the progress of the Mass Rapid Transit or metro-rail project and the Padma Bridge project, as the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges has been implementing the two projects as per the schedule.
The Dhaka Mass Rapid Transport Development (DMRTD) Project officials presented the basic design of MRT line-6 in the meeting and shared its challenges, they added.
After the January 5 election last year, the government formed the committee to monitor six fast track mega projects - MRT line-6 project, Padma Bridge project, Rooppur nuclear power plant project, deep seaport project, LNG terminal construction project, and Rampal coal-fired power plant project - on priority basis. After the inclusion of Matarbari power plant project, seven projects are now under the purview of the committee.
