The government ordered Sunday providing prepaid electricity meters to every client across the country within three years from now to ensure efficient power use, by plugging meter tampering.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (MPEMR) Nasrul Hamid gave the instructions to the top officials of the power entities at a review meeting, where he also unveiled extensive expansion plan for electricity supply.
"Take effective measure to ensure electricity supply to every citizen," he said on the expansion plan to ensure power to all the power-less.
The minister also asked for opening a public relations cell in the state-owned Rural Electrification Board (REB).
The review meeting at the secretariat reappraised implementation of the MPEMR projects under the annual development programme (ADP) and found out that it lacked a good going.
Mr Hamid was dissatisfied with the progress on ADP projects of his ministry as only 25.64 per cent visible progress had been achieved until October of the current fiscal year (2014-15).
He asked the officials to actively work for implementing the project works.
The Power Division has a total of 64 projects worth Tk 91.21 billion, said a senior power ministry official.
Power Secretary Monowar Islam, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) Chairman Abduhu Ruhullah and REB Chairman Main Uddin, among others, attended the meeting.
