Pvt varsities cut spending on labs, libraries

Though there is no alternative to modernizing libraries and laboratories for ensuring quality higher education, the country's private universities cut their spending on the section in 2013, reports UNB.

According to the recently-published University Grants Commission (UGC) Annual Report 2013, the country's 68 private universities spent Tk 607.1 million (60.71 crore) on the library-laboratory part in 2013 while the expenses of 60 private universities in 2012 was Tk 807.2 million.

On its library part, East Delta University spent the highest amount of Tk 75.6 million while Brac University spent Tk 21.1 million and Independent University, Bangladesh Tk 151 million. For Laboratory part, North South University spent the highest amount of Tk 108 million while International University of Business Agriculture and Technology and Daffodil International University spent Tk 38.5 million and Tk 22.9 million respectively, according to the report.
