Incessant rain triggered waterlogging and gridlocks in different parts of the capital on Thursday, disrupting normal life of its residents, especially office-goers and students.

The city dwellers faced immense sufferings due to the heavy downpour since the morning.

The waterlogging led to nagging traffic jams in some parts of the capital, including Arambagh, Motijheel and Rampura.

Commuters got stuck into vehicles for hours and their life came to a grinding halt amid waterlogging and tailbacks.

Bangladesh Meteorologi-cal Department (BMD) recorded 79mm rainfall in the capital.

Rainfall is likely to persist until Friday in some areas of the country.

Light-to-moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur in many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, says a weather bulletin from the BMD.

The rainfall occurred following an active monsoon over the country and a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal.

The highest 157mm rainfall was recorded in Saidpur of Nilphamari district in 24 hours till 6:00pm on the day.

The maximum temperature recorded in Chattogram, Sitakunda and Kutubdia was 33 degrees Celsius.
