Raise accountability of banks, NBFIs: Muhith

FE Report | April 10, 2015 00:00:00

Finance Minister AMA Muhith hoped Thursday that accountability of state-owned banks (SoBs) and non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs) would be ensured in the days to come.

"This is also a part of reforms of these organisations. The reforms will ensure their accountability," the minister said while addressing bankers at a performance contract signing ceremony at the ministry's conference room in the secretariat.

He said reforms are needed at every stage to attain progress.

Mr Muhith said the purpose of signing such contracts is an improvement of performance of banks and NBFIs. "It will also raise acceptability of the organisations to commoners."

In the programme, some 14 banks and NBFIs signed contracts with the government. Secretary to the Banks and Financial Institutions Division Dr Aslam Alam signed the contracts on behalf of the government while chairman and managing directors for the banks and NBFIs.

Banks and NBFIs, which signed the contracts, are Sonali, Janata, Agrani, Rupali, BASIC (Bangladesh Small Industries and Commerce Bank Ltd), Bangladesh Development Bank Ltd, Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB), Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB), Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation, Karmasangsthan Bank, Ansar-VDP Unnayan Bank, Probashi Kallyan Bank, Jiban Bima Corporation, and Sadharan Bima Corporation.
