Remittance flow up by 11.76pc in July

The country's inward remittance flow rose by around 11.76 per cent to US$2.09 billion in July of the current fiscal year (FY), 2022-23, than that of the corresponding period of last fiscal, as per the Bangladesh Bank data -- released on Monday.
Bangladeshis staying abroad sent home over $1.87 billion in July of FY 2021-22, the central bank statistics showed.
The country's remittance income would go up further in the coming months -- following an upward trend in sending workers abroad, insiders said.
Bangladesh sent a record number of workers abroad in the last fiscal - amid a post-pandemic rebound of the overseas job market - as nearly one million people found employment abroad following good demand for Bangladeshi workers.
The Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) data showed that a total of 988,112 workers went abroad with jobs in the FY 2021-22.
Remittance is a vital source for Bangladesh's foreign-exchange reserve. However, the inflow of remittance to the country declined in the FY 22 over that of the previous fiscal.
Migrant workers sent home over $21.03 billion in the last fiscal - compared to over $24.77 billion in the FY 2020-21, as per the official data. arafataradhaka@gmail.com
