Remove launch terminal from Lalkuthi-Ruplal House

Says DSCC mayor

FE REPORT | May 24, 2022 00:00:00

The launch terminal from Lalkhuti to Ruplal House portion on the banks of the river Buriganga needs to be removed, said Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Paposh.

"I call upon the BIWTA (Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority) to shift Lalkuthi to Ruplal House portion of Dhaka River Port Terminal for bringing back the old heritage of Dhaka," he said while visiting project work of Dhaka City Neighbourhood Upgrading Project at Lalkuthi at Sadarghat in Dhaka on Monday.

He said that Dhaka has been built on the bank of the River Buriganga. But over the years the river has been encroached either by the public or private entities.

The mayor recommended handing over Ruplal House to DSCC so that the corporation could renovate it.

"We want to bring back the heritage of all historical structures of Dhaka city," said Mr Taposh.

World Bank Country Director Mercy Miyang Tembon, Prof Muntasir Mamun, President of Bangladesh Institute of Planners Fazle Reza Suman, councilors of ward number 43 and 46, and officials of DSCC were present, among others.
