Report on Public Procurement Bill placed before House

Chairman of the Standing Committee on Planning Ministry Oli Ahmed submitted the report on Public Procurement (Second Amendment) Bill, 2009 before the House Monday.
Planning Minister AK Khandaker put forward the bill Sunday and the committee was given two days' time to submit the report.
In the report Mr Oli said the committee members scrutinised the bill on Sunday and finalised it.
Mr Oli also said the bill is aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in government procurement.
The main features of the bill are - tenders can be awarded through lottery, tenders will be cancelled if the quoted price varies less or more than 5 per cent of the estimated cost and no experience will be needed to get tender work.
All these features will only be applicable to tenders of less than Tk 20 million (2.0 crore), the report said.
