Researchers in certain cases may get service extension

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina said on Thursday her government was considering relaxation of the age limit of the researchers engaged in specific researches so that they could complete their works, reports UNB.

"We want to give a chance to the researchers to complete their research works so that age can't be a bar to their works. But, we won't do it wholesale…then all would turn researchers. We would only make a special arrangement for those conducting specific researches," she said.

Hasina was addressing a function marking the distribution of cheques of Bangabandhu Fellowship, National Science & Technology Fellowship and financial grants to researchers and students at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.

State Minister for Science and Technology Architect Yeafesh Osman presided over the function while Acting Secretary of the Ministry AKM Amir Hossain gave the address of welcome organised by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The PM also said the government is now planning and thinking how it could make the special arrangement in this connection. "I always think that researches could open up new doors for us."

Sheikh Hasina urged the researchers and students of the country to work hard and with utmost responsibility to achieve the desired goal as financial grants for researches and fellowships are awarded to them from the taxpayers money.

"Due to the resource constraints, allocation of fund in various sectors is being made on priority basis. The financial grants for researches and fellowships are being provided to them from the taxpayers' money. So, I'll urge the researchers and students to work hard with utmost responsibility to achieve the desired goal," she said.
