Protesters have demanded resignation of Jahangirnagar University (JU) Proctor ASM Firoz Ul Hasan and provost of Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall Professor Dr Sabbir Alam over the much-talked-about rape incident on the campus.

The demand came from a human chain organised by the 'Nipiron Birodhi Mancho', an anti-oppression forum consisting of both faculty and students of JU, in front of the Shahid Minar on the campus on Tuesday.

They also pressed three other demands which include punishment of the culprits, revocation of their certificates and termination of JU teacher Mahmudur Rahman Jony on charges of sexual abuse.

Some 20 teachers and hundreds of students took part in the protest programme.

Professor Parvin Jolly of the History Department has expressed concerns that the administration is failing to take legal action against those involved in the rape.

In another development, JU Chhatra League leaders and activists organised a silent protest march on the campus.

Besides, another protest march was brought out on the campus, pressing home four demands, which include bringing culprits to book and forming a committee to investigate the 'escape' of culprits.

Protests flared up as a housewife was violated on the campus on Saturday after her husband was confined to a room.

Amid protests, prime accused Mustafizur Rahman, a JU student and also a BCL leader, was arrested early on Sunday.

Mustafizur and three of his accomplices were put on remand. Two more accused were still on the run.
