Borak, the country's 17th ride-sharing service, hit the street on Monday.
Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mostafa Jabbar inaugurated the service in the city.
The minister, in his speech, expressed his pride that The Borak app was made by the country's youth.
Mr Jabbar lauded the role of entrepreneurs in launching the app as a timely initiative of the new generation.
He opined that The Borak would do better with the strength of youth and patriotism.
Hotel Management Institute Chairman Tony Khan and Bangladesh Computer Association Sylhet Branch Chairman Enamul Quddus Chowdhury were present as the special guests on the occasion.
Major (Retd) Rakib Hasan, administrative officer of the Borak Services Limited, presided over the function; while Md. Nazrul Islam, its chairman and a valiant freedom fighter, delivered speech on the occasion.
Shafiul Alam Biplob, founder CEO of The Borak, delivered the welcome speech.
He said, "Our main goal is to ensure uninterrupted and fast services to all classes of professionals through these apps."
"Hopefully, by the middle of 2026, we will be able to bring half of the country's citizens under this platform as well as to serve across the borders," he added.
Borak received ride sharing certificate last month. Apart from ride sharing through this app - integrated into three apps of customer, wings and store - delivery and service would also be available.
From four main categories of 'ride', 'service', 'food' and 'product', its journey started with providing 71 types of services, including motor ride to ambulance, grocery, electronics or cosmetics, food order, medical services, plumber, salon/beauty parlour, etc.
